Screenshot from an application running on a home made interactive table
After setting up an interactive surface with ReacTIVision, we needed to create an application that would be engaging to the rest of our classmates and demonstrate the potential of this new tool. The result, which needed to be accomplished in less than a day, was a toy that allowed you to mix and match the body parts of all the Pilot Year students (plus a few unsuspecting faculty). No video yet, but keep reading for some photos…
The toy was built with ReacTIVision and Adobe Flash. Users can make funny characters by using the body parts of different pilot year students.
A camera below the table tracks the fiducials which controls the Flash application. In the photo above is a fiducial for controlling the legs (left) and the bottom of a fiducial (right) which shows contains a special symbol that ReacTIVision can track.
The toy is controlled by placing a fiducial on the table and rotating it left or right. There are three fiducials for switching head, torso and legs. Rotating the fiducial with cycle through the corresponding body part.
The toy proved to be a lot of fun and challenged people to find the funniest combinations. A roar of laughter signaled when someone had done that.
